Count down to Marble City races. The events are ideally timed for athletes planning to complete the Dublin Marathon in late October. The 3rd annual Kilkenny Half Marathon and 10 km is less than 3 weeks away. Both races start and finish outside Kilkenny’s most impressive landmark, the Kilkenny Castle. It is worth mentioning that the Castle will be open to the public in September as will the 50 acres of parkland. For athletes bringing family along this is a lovely area to spend some time.
Definitely the nicest race t-shirt of 2011. Entry will have to close when full, so enter soon.
Kilkenny Half Marathon course.
After leaving the city the half marathon course ventures into the surrounding countryside before returning to the city for a fantastic finish on the parade. This is a one circuit course. This contributes to the appeal of the course and gives runners a better appreciation of this part of Kilkenny. The course is reasonably flat and lends itself to some quick times.
Kilkenny 10 km course.
The 10 km course stays within the city boundaries. There is a climb at about 1.5 km, but after that the course is reasonable and the last 5 km should be fast as it is nearly all flat or downhill.
