IRONMAN 70.3 Ireland has once again teamed up with local heart and stroke charity Croí to launch the IRONMAN 70.3 Ireland Team Relay. IRONMAN 70.3 returns to Galway, which is taking place this year on Sunday September 2nd. Beginning with the swim at Blackrock in Salthill, the race will continue out to Maam Cross on bike and the final leg will see it returning to Salthill for the final race on foot.

Eoin McCormack, of E&R Events Ltd, the official local organisers, is delighted to have Croí back on board as their official charity sponsor,
“Charities play a big and crucial role in Ironman and we are delighted to have Croí back with us again, supporting our relay teams.”
Last year, Croi saw almost 100 relay teams fundraising on its’ behalf.
Croí will once again be the official charity partner of the IRONMAN 70.3 Team Relay.
Of the 96 teams that took part in the relay for Croí in last years event, each of them raised an average of €350 for the charity on top of the entry fee.
Speaking on behalf of Ironman’s official charity sponsor for the second year running, Barry McCann said:
"We are delighted to be the charity partner with the Relay again and we look forward to building on a very successful relationship with IRONMAN last year. The event raised over €25,000 in 2011, which goes along way to support our wide range of health and educational services."
The charity is encouraging people of all sporting backgrounds to get a piece of the IRONMAN 70.3 action this year.
Mr. McCann continued:
“The team relay makes the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon accessible to men and women who are not strong in all three disciplines, enabling them to focus on either the swim, bike or run.”
“The electronic timing chip, worn on the ankle, will act as the baton for the team and is passed from swimmer to cyclist and cyclist to runner in the transition area.”
“Team members can then join up on the last dash to the finish line to receive their IRONMAN 70.3 medals and finisher’s T-shirts.”
The Relay entry is €700 per team, which includes the charity contribution to support the fight against heart disease and stroke.
A €50 deposit is all that is required to secure your team’s entry, with the balance being fundraised, paid for by the team or you can have a team sponsor.
