World Junior Preparation Day And Junior Hurdles Day

Amazing spirit developed in a short period of time

If enthusiasm, energy, talent and sheer hard work are pre-requisites for success then Saturdays relay squad session in Santry was the first step in our junior men’s and woman’s sprint relay teams preparation for World Junior qualification.

Six hours of work with a short interlude for lunch developed the skills required for relay success. Both squads developed amazing spirit in a short period of time cumulating in specific work through the relay “change box” were the competitive instincts of all the athletes came to the fore. Led by Athletics Ireland’s speed consultant Graham Knight and assisted by sprints co-ordinator Stephen Maguire, and coaches Joe Evans and Brian Corcoran the squads enjoyed top class feedback and practical advice. The buzz in the indoor area was enhanced by fellow athletes with parents and personal coaches enjoying the session.

On Sunday the hurdles squad kept up the momentum, again led by Graham each hurdler visibly grew in confidence as the day progressed. The theme of the day was developing proper technique, posture and attack on and off the hurdle, and blessed with a hint of spring weather the athletes demonstrated their skills to the assembled coaches during the afternoon session.

On both days the squads had the benefit of video analysis and each athlete will receive a DVD to help them and their club coach in analysing their technique.
