Horseshoe 8 Mile

The race is run as a fundraiser for the North Sligo Playground Group, and is now in its 5th year.

The race is based at the Benwiskin Centre (https://www.benwiskincentre.com/), and will start for runners at 6pm. Registration will start at 4:30pm. There is a walkers route, which is approximately 4miles, which will start as soon as the runners have left.

The run takes you through the beautiful Horseshoe valley which is iconic in its beauty and history. As you rise into the valley the 19th century Bartyes Mill Site is located on the left as you run into the horse shoe. A lovely woodland walk has been developed at the Mill Site which takes you along under native Irish trees, babbling mountain streams and pretty waterfalls. It is a lovely spot to stop for a picnic SOME OTHER DAY!.

The tall cliffs on the left after the road begins to turn back to the north are the Cliffs of Annacoona. As you emerge through the trees the legendary Diarmuid and Grainne’s cave becomes visible high up on the steep slopes, this is reputed to be the last hiding place of the ill fated lovers. Follow the loop around turning right at the T-junction after the decent to return to the Benwiskin Centre.

KM markers will be in place around the loop to give guidance.
