A great race was had by the 160 participants who turned up on a sodden evening. The waterfalls were in full flow on the horseshoe, and the runners thought that they would only have to contend with our own hell of the north west, well the local farmers chipped in with their own obstacles. On the way back the runners had to contend with around 500 sheep coming up the road against them. Sligo AC athlete Alan Kearns coped best of the front runners, passing Eamon McAndrew (Sligo Tri Club) and Tommy Kelly (North Sligo) at this stage, and managing to hold on for the last couple of km’s, to win by 10 seconds. Ladies winner was Joan Flanagan from Enniskillen, who managed the conditions admirably, holding off local favourite Rosanne Mitchell (Sligo AC) and Aideen Regan.
The race was a wonderful success, and will hopefully become an annual event on the local race calendar.
