from Cork BHAA The Bank of Ireland beach race was a very enjoyable event on a beautiful morning. Congratulations and thanks to Mick Martin and a large group of his colleagues from Bank of Ireland, New Ireland Assurance etc. The little extra distance did not seem to trouble runners unduly.
Those who hurried off to Santry for the International Masters cross-country races saw some outstanding performances and Irish teams surpassed themselves in winning several of the team events in both men’s and women’s categories. Last time I mentioned some of those running, but I managed to omit three of my own clubmates – Donna Mahon (SIAC); Paul Fleming (Irish Dairy Board) and Helen Ingram – so apologies to them. I was delighted too to see long-time BHAA member Mary Butler (RTE) in the women’s race.
Our next race is the NSRT and SMART cross-country races at St Margaret’s on Saturnday next. Women’s race is 3 miles and starts at 11.00am and the men’s race is 4 miles and starts at 11.30am. Although the course is the same as before, the race HQ for registration and changing is different. This will be at St Margaret’s GAA club which is about a mile from the race start, so you need to allow plenty of time to register and get down to the start. There are full directions and further details on the BHAA website.
And just so that you know: NSRT stands for National School of Remedial Therapy, run by Dave Corcoran and SMART stands for Sports Massage and Remedial Therapy, operated by Austin Mooney. These two enthusiasts along with a small group of supporters put a huge effort into this race and they deserve to get a big attendance. Bring your spikes, you will probably need them – it is described as “old style” cross-country and it is always enjoyable.
Finally, the BHAA AGM will take place on Monday 6th December 2010 at 8pm in the Alexander Hotel, Dublin 2. This is your chance to get involved – there are vacancies on the committee that need to be filled. You can find nomination forms and forms to submit motions on the BHAA website also.
See you on Saturday.
