Flanagan Fights Back

from Sean Bailey In the first ever Kinvara Aquathlon Michael Flanagan took victory with a time of 29min 12sec beating 12 year old Sarah Kelly by just 26 seconds. After last weeks shock result in Ouchterard which saw Sarah taking victory and 13 year old Darragh Bailey taking 2nd the adults had to put their foot down this weekend.

First to emerge from the water after the 500m swim was Ronan Murphy with a time of 7min 18sec closely followed by Sarah only 1 second later and then Darragh 12 seconds after, it was another 1min 43sec before the next competitor Mary Waters emerged.

Michael Flanagan who emerged from the water in 5th place put in an incredible run of 19min 50sec for the 5km to take the win was delighter after his shock last week.

Ronan Murphy who was first out of the water could only manage 4th place overall but 3rd place for the men with a run of 23:50 a run time matched by Susan Lambert who was 7th overall but 2nd in the female category.

There were 15 competitors in all who took part in the event made up of 5 female and 10 male competitors.

Run Ireland who was the organising body will be making this an annual event between Ouchterard and Kinvara with 4 legs, over the four weekends in August.

The beneficiaries of the events this year were MS Ireland and Kinvara National School
The next event will take place in Ouchterard on Saturday the 22nd August and entries can be made online by visiting runireland.com which also contains details of all up coming events.
