The Great Ethiopian Run is due to take place on Sunday November 25th 2012 in Addis Ababa. The Great Ethiopian Run is Africa’s biggest running event. The race attracts tens of thousands of people to historic Addas Ababa each year, and raises thousands of euro worth of fundraising support for domestic and international charities.
More than 35,000 competitors lined up for the 2011 10km run. The race attracts walking, jogging and running contestants, and follows a particular route through the city.
Self Help Africa is entering a team, led by Operation Transformation’s Ronan Scully in 2012. We are currently inviting participants to travel with us to this magical African country for the weekend event, to explore bustling Addas Ababa, and also to spend a short time in the countryside, visiting Self Help Africa’s projects in the region. Altogether, we will spend 5 days in Ethiopia, with the race taking place on Sunday 25th.
Race participants are asked to raise €3,000 to take part in the race. The cost of participating in this year’s 10km Great Ethiopian Run will cover all costs – including international flights and transfers, local accommodation, food, and in-country travel between locations and our projects. Each participant can raise this money through sponsorship and we will send you out cards, t-shirts, buckets etc, to help in your fundraising quests.
