Comments Bronagh Luke, Corporate Marketing Controller, Henderson Group: “We are proud to kick off the very first SPAR Grand Prix 10K Series taking place in communities across Northern Ireland throughout 2010. We are keen to promote active lifestyles and encourage local people to ‘get into their stride’. Taking part in a 10K race is an achievable, affordable way of boosting fitness levels or setting yourself a challenge.

SPAR sponsors athletics on a European and UK level and on a local level we’ve sponsored several races such as the SPAR Omagh Half Marathon, which we will continue to support this year alongside our series of 10K races. We welcomed William Sharman and Kelly McNeice to Mary Peters Track today as shining examples of young people who have excelled in their field. William is the fifth fastest British 110m hurdler of all time, while Lisburn’s Kelly, who is the NI 1500m record holder will soon head to Qatar for the World Indoor Championships where she will represent Ireland in the 1500m. We’ll be working with Kelly as a local ambassador for the SPAR Grand Prix 10K Series to host primary school Masterclasses across Northern Ireland. We hope the SPAR Grand Prix 10K Series will have people across Northern Ireland putting their best foot forward towards a healthier heart this year.”

Adds John Allen, General Secretary from Athletics Northern Ireland: “We are delighted to mention SPAR as sponsors of the 10K Grand Prix Series. Road Running is a major growth area of our sport and we believe that the SPAR sponsorship will enable us to showcase events of the highest quality throughout the Province and will provide runners of all abilities with a top quality and enjoyable experience.”
