A new Fit4Life group organised by Bantry Athletics Club, kicked-off in Bantry recently. Promoted by a poster, leaflet and press campaign Fit4Life in Bantry now has 80 people registered, all very enthusiastic runners and walkers who turn out every Monday evening, come rain or snow.
To ensure all can participate, the club runs 3 groups: runners, walk to run and walkers. The clubs aim is to encourage everyone to take part in some type of physical activity, 2-3 times per week.
Local businesses have been very supportive of the initiative, a local hotel offers the group a warm and dry meeting room each Monday evening. Fit4Life members, can avail of exclusive discounts on gym memberships, pilates classes and purchases at the local sports shop. They are also pleased that a local food based business have recognized the benefits of healthy eating, offering members specially designed Fit4Life smoothies at reduced prices. The club hopes to develop relationships with other businesses in the town, placing Fit4Life in the heart of the community.
Bantry AC are also developing a website that will be a comprehensive resource for anyone wanting to explore what sporting activites are on offer in the Bantry area, from set dancing to local races. The website will also host links to sports clubs, local events and sport related bodies. This is an ongoing project and information is being added to the site often, if anyone would like to link or add information please contact the club at www.bantryac/fit4life.
