Finn Valley a c this week launched their annual St Stephens Day 5k run /walk/ jog the 39th annual organisation of the popular community event which in 2008 attracted close to 800 to the start line . The dedicated charity on this occassion is Multiple Sclerosis ( Donegal Branch ) proceeds to support the families and friends of those affected . M S is a disabling neurological condition a condition of the central nervous system for which there is NO KNOWN CURE . Symptoms include tingling, numbness, balance, weakness in one or more limbs, blurred vision, slurred speech, paralysis and cognitive difficulties. The aim of the local branch is no doubt to enable and empower those affected by M S to live the life of their choice to their fullest potential .
Support undertaken locally includes counselling ,couples weekends, newly diagnosed events, teenage events for young people whose parents are affected, physiotheraphy and advise and encouragement with exercise programmes to get the balance right . Its interesting to note with 400 approx noted sufferers in the Donegal area, its the highest incident per capita in the country .
