Martin Fagan of Mullingar Harriers finished second in the Blue Cross Broad Street Run 10 mile in Philadelphia on Sunday in an impressive 46.39 minutes, one of the fastest times ever by an Irishman. Fagan, led most of the way before giving way in the final mile and finishing second to Ethiopia’s Ketema Nigusse in the men’s race.”I have a very poor finishing speed,” Fagan said. “It’s something I’m working on. [Nigusse] made a smart move at the right time.”
Nigusse, last year’s runner-up, won the 10-mile event, in 46 minutes, 29 seconds. Fagan making his first Broad Street Run appearance crossed the finish line 10 seconds later. “Mentally, I’m at a much better place now,” Fagan said. “I enjoy running again. That makes a big difference.”
