Evan McGuire who trains with Galway City Harriers and is from Claregalway won the coveted prize of being the only person from the Connaught region to run in the Olympic Stadium in London on 3rd May. Evan qualified at the Powerade On Your Marks competition which took place at the weekend at the Institute of technology Sligo.

Evan McGuire, Connaught winner said; “This is amazing! I can’t believe I will get to run in the Olympic Stadium before many of the Olympic athletes do. I have been running for over ten years now and have been competing at All-Ireland level in 400 hurdles, javelin and multi-events so this really is a dream come true! I can’t thank Powerade enough!”

The competition will see four people qualify from regional On Your Marks Events across Ireland. These four people will be the first four Irish people to ‘get on their marks’ in the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. Evan and the other three winners from the remaining three provincial races will also be accompanied to London by Powerade Ireland Brand Ambassador and Olympic hopeful Derval O’Rourke.

To be in with a chance of winning this once-in-a-lifetime experience, enter the Munster event on the 21st of April (CIT, Cork) and the Leinster Event on the 22nd April (Morton Stadium, Santry, Dublin)
