from Northern Ireland Athletics This year 2009, Greencastle 5 Mile Road Race are proudly celebrating their 24th Annual five mile road race, and already looking forward to our our 25th Anniversary in 2010.
This years run is in aid of the Ulster Cancer Foundation and for the first time there will be a wheel chair race which starts at 12:50, due to health and safety reasons there is a seperate walk at 11am.
All 2009 Online entrants, walkers and runners, will be entered into a draw which will take place at the prize giving ceremony afterwards. The star prize is a weekend for two at the K Club Golf & Spa Resort – 5 Star Hotel in Co Kildare worth €3000
This Annual race is also a very significant event in the local athletic calendar. Each year a host of locals and many members of the wider competitive running fraternity volunteer to slot into the many behind-the-scene and off-the-course stewarding roles.
This Greencastle Road Race has taken on a life and a meaning of its own, a life which is probably born out of an individual and collective desire to do what we can for the greater good of all. Over the years this ‘life and meaning’ has witnessed tens of thousands of pounds being donated to various charities.

The main race begins at 1pm SHARP
The wheelchair race begins at 12:50pm SHARP
The Walk begins at 11:00am walkers can also take part from the back of the pack during the main event at 1:00pm to ensure a clear track for runners and wheelchair competitors due to health and safety reasons.
It is advisable to enter this race in advance online to avoid the large queus on the day.
