Dundalk 10k 2014 is launched in DkIT Across the north east athletes and running enthusiasts of all levels of fitness are getting back into training in preparation for the newly relaunched Dundalk 10k run taking place this April 2nd. The race was relaunched on Tuesday 28th February with DkIT as its major sponsor. President Denis Cummins said he was looking forward to hosting the event on campus and welcoming runners from across the north east and beyond to DkIT. There are some changes to the race in 2014 with the route beginning and ending on the DkIT campus while taking runners through the historic border town at the gateway to the Cooley Peninsula. Students Union President Brian Fitzpatrick thanked everyone on behalf of the management team and welcomed the promotion of physical and mental wellbeing among the students, staff and the wider community. Sports and physical activity are an important part of a balanced lifestyle and a part that can get pushed to one side under the pressure of study and work, making it difficult to cope with life’s stresses. The DkIT Fit for Life campaign, which includes the Dundalk 10k, creates many opportunities for people to find ways to train and exercise that suits them in the weeks leading up to race night. Everyone is encouraged to take part. The main charity beneficiary of this year’s Dundalk 10k race is local NGO Development Perspectives who run educational programmes in collaboration with partners in Africa and India. However runners, joggers and walkers of all fitness levels are welcome to take part and raise funds for their favourite charity. Register now at www.dundalk10k.com.
