Submitted by N.collins on www.limericktriathlonclub.com Scientific tests have shown that theVO2 max for female athletes increases significantly after pregnancy……after yesterdays LTC first race of the Duathlon series it now seems that this beneficial effect applies to the male partners too!
After a super bike split by, father of twins only 3 weeks ago, Ruaidhri Geraghty went on to blow away the rest of the field and brake the course record in sunny perfect race conditions. Father of one of 4.5 months Eamonn Horgan was second, so we are expecting Tony Chawke who is due to become a father in 4 weeks to win the last race on the basis that his child will be 1-2 days old! Lisa Horgan came back for her first race in while to have a comfortable win and celebrated in style with champagne later that evening.

A surprisingly large crowd of 85 arrived in force on a chilly but sunny morning in Limerick……with the bike park built and the entrants all entered and wonderfully officiated over by Race Ref Andrew Parkinson we were ready for the off……

Stephen Teeling Lynch thought he was racing in Shelbourne Park with the speed he came out of the traps and down the hill. In the fear that he might be able to hold that speed Horgan went after him and the two flew out the gate leaving their lungs by transition. The were soon caught by Ruaidhri just after the turnaround with a strong bunch of 5 or 6 just behind including Brian Jenkins, Niall Collins, Derek Nugent (back for his “training” year in Africa). Horgan just ahead coming in to transition with Ruaidhri just on his shoulder. Ruaidhri did a blistering cycle and pulled away from Horgan who couldn’t respond. After T2 Ruaidhri put in another very strong run and finished in 1st position almost 2 minutes ahead in 47.20(course record)of 2nd place Horgan in 49.05 with Stephen Teelin Lynch close on his tail in 3rd position in 49.15.

In the ladies race Lisa Horgan came in 1st position well ahead of the others with an overall time of 56.33 and Marie Triona Kane 2nd on 58.36 followed very closely by Ailbhe Healy in a time of 58.45.

The next race is March 2nd so we’re hoping for another good turn out. And finally huge thanks again to all the Marshals, Time keepers and helpers who turned up on the day to help out – without their help the races would not take place! Thanks lads and lassies – we really appreciated your help! And last but not least thanks again to Willie Carey for all the help.
