Double Silver Medals for Donore Teams in Tymon Park

from Donore Harriers A cold Tymon park, Sunday, November 21st was the setting for the Dublin Senior Intermediate XC Championships. Two races over a 2K lap were the only races of the day, with a 4K course for women and 8K for men. The ground was pretty good all in all and it was a reasonably flat course.

The women were the first to take a team silver soon after their 1pm start. Alisa Cotter was the first Donore athlete home with a 3rd place finish, well clear of the 4th athlete and beaten into bronze position by 2 Raheny athletes. Mairead Kirby finished in 11th with Sinead McCauley 18th and Bridget Kiely our 4th scoring athlete in 20th securing a team silver with 52 points, pipped only by 1 point with Raheny Shamrock AC finishing with 51 points. Claire Doyle finished in 23rd, with Michelle O’Hagan 26th, Patricia Doran 36th, Mary Murphy 39th and Caren Crowley 41st.

Expecting a 10k race, 10 Donore men lined up for the 1.30pm start only to be informed that the distance was 8K. There wasn’t much complaints but the race eventually clocked closer to 9K rather than 8! Unfortunately due to some withdrawals our 2 teams were down on the originally expected 16 athletes but the lads did very well considering. Com Hill was our first athlete home snatching an individual bronze with Ken Nugent who led for much of the race next home in 4th place. Fergal Swaine was next in 12th with Gavin Keogh making up the 4th Donore ‘A’ man finishing in 14th place giving us 52 points to take team silver. Again, like the Women’s team we were beaten by just 1 point with Crusaders taking team gold on 51 points. Jevgenijs Nemiro was 17th whilst Micheal Rickard (Donore B) had a great run finishing 21st, followed by George Brady (Donore B) 31st, Colin Moore (Donore B) 41st and Ronan Lambe (Donore B) 56th. Unfortunately Daivd Heffernan was a casualty and had to pull out with injury.

Well done to all.
