– Saturday 15th October 2011, in aid of ‘Friends of Naas Hospital’.
We believe this is a ‘must do 10k run’ for all those runners who might be looking for a 10K challenge, are chasing a PB or, are in training for the Dublin City Marathon. What better way to boost training than by running in an environment of idyllic lakes, ancient forest tracks and medieval castles?
Taking place on Saturday 15th of October the race kicks off from St Kevin’s GAA Club in Staplestown Co. Kildare at 11.00am. The run will see 750 runners through the idyllic and peaceful landscape of the Staplestown area and Donadea Forest Park. The terrain is varied from road, country lanes, to forest track and ensures to inspire runners en route. A route map is be available for download at: www.donadeaforest10k.ie
The proceeds from this year’s race will go to the charity ‘Friends of Naas Hospital’. Set up in 1988 by the medical staff, the family and friends of patients attending the hospital, in order to prevent the lack of funding and recourses from the health board impacting on patient care. This year, staff at the hospital are also keen to encourage patients and other staff members, to keep fit and stay healthy. In keeping with this, they’ve orchestrated a ‘staff well-being programme’, consisting of lunch time ‘walks and talks’ on the importance of 30mins daily exercise, the correct footwear to wear when training, the importance of stretching, how to avoid injury, to mention but a few. The programme is designed to last 8 weeks, culminating in the Donadea Forest 10k Run. Like all ventures funding is a major issue put particularly in times like these. The real need at the moment is to meet the shortfall to allow the financial support and practical help continue to reach those most vulnerable patients. Help us by continuing to support this wonderful organisation which provides a much needed service in our community.
