An exhilarating running, biking and kayaking race with diamond and £600 cash prizes to raise money for the African Schools Trust charity. On Sat 5th June 2010 competitors will cross the beautiful scenery of the Carlingford and Mourne Mountains, Ireland. Competitors start at King Johns Castle in Carlingford for a 15km run up and down the Cooley Mountains then along a forest path followed by a short 1km kayak section from Omeath to Warrenpoint and finish with a 45km bike ride through the heart of the Mournes sweeping down to the sea. The race is designed by experienced race organizers from Adventure Ireland and Causeway Coast Adventure Racing on behalf of the charity. Lucy Jaffa, charity trustee said DQI 2009 was a fantastic success with great feedback from the competitors like “I thought the course was excellent, tough at times and a brilliant course!” “As a slow first time adventure racer it was a good format with superb views and a very varied course.” “The race is as tough as Gaelforce and a good training session for Gaelforce.” “Thanks so much for a wonderful weekend and race. I was lucky enough to win a diamond. What a fantastic prize, I didn’t believe it until I saw it. It’s being made into a ring for my wife. I’ve now got permission to enter as many races as I like!” The African Schools Trust charity supports 1000 disadvantaged children from 4 schools in the Nairobi slums, Kenya with daily food. Attendance and exam results have improved so much that this year record numbers are graduating from the secondary schools. The charity has bought books, paid teachers’ salaries, improved the school buildings and bought school land. Entry for DQI 2010 now open on www.eventelephant.com/diamondquestireland
