This run takes place over a 6k course which is largely flat down through Cruit Island with a challenging incline towards the finish-line at Carey’s Viking House Hotel. Categories include Senior Men, Senior Women, Masters and Junior with the overall winner laying claim to the Darren Mills Memorial Run/Walk Shield.
This annual fundraising event – which is now in its 3rd year – was set up as a tribute to Kincasslagh native Darren who tragically passed away in 2010. The main 6k event sees runners and walkers register at Carey’s Viking House before departing from St.Mary’s Hall, crossing the Cruit bridge and continuing down the island as far as Darren’s Memorial monument before returning to the finish line at the Viking House. To facilitate those with younger children or who feel they may not manage the full 6k route, this year a shorter 1.25k walking route which follows a loop around by St.Mary’s Chapel and Belcruit N.S has been added.
Entry by donation with all proceeds to be split between North West Cancer Group and Belcruit National School.
