Cuddihy Achieves Olympic Standard in 400m


from Athletics Ireland Joanne Cuddihy of Kilkenny City Harriers has achieved the Olympic qualification time in the 400m at the Shizuoka International Track and Field Meet in Japan last night. The Kilkenny woman ran 51.45 in wet conditions to win the race. This brings the total qualifiers in Athletics to 17.

Cuddihy will next compete in the Golden Grand Prix in Kawasaki on Sunday where she is hoping to further improve on this time.

In other good news for Athletics Ireland, Mark English (Letterkenny AC) won the 800m at BMC meet on Tuesday night. His time of 1.48.19 is inside the Athletics Ireland A standard for the World Juniors. The DUC student finished well ahead of Sam Dykes in 1.50.39 and Ben Waterman in 1.50.54
