C10 – March 23rd 2014. Sunday 23rd March 2014 will see the 5th Annual Craughwell 10mile road race aka C10 take place through the scenic country roads of Craughwell, Co. Galway. Over 600 eager participants lined up on the start line of the 2013 race. The Craughwell 10 has become an extremely popular race in the West of Ireland attracting athletes from all over Ireland and abroad. 10 miles is a lovely distance and the route itself is a quiet and scenic circuit, accurately AAI measured, on country roads with full road closures in operation. It is mostly flat with some modest inclines. This race is an enjoyable combination of competitive road racing and recreational running.
Car parking is plentiful and well stewarded. There is ample space for warm up and cool down running before and after the event. All finishers will receive a commemorative medal and technical t-shirts guaranteed for all entries received online. Full road closure will be in place and every junction marshalled. Chip timing will be provided by Red tag timing. Participants can be guaranteed a great welcome to Craughwell and of course our well known and generous post race refreshments.
The current men’s course record is held by Seán Connolly of Tallaght AC in a time of 49.12, while the women’s course record is held by Raheny Shamrock AC’s Eilish Kelly in a time of 57.44.
Last years top three men included Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrocks AC in first place, Michael Shannon in second place and Gerry Ryan of Craughwell AC in third place. First for the ladies last year was Eilish Kelly of Raheny Shamrocks AC with her clubmate Barbara Sanchez hot on her heels in second place and Pauline Curley of Tullamore Harriers in third place.
It is officially the Galway 10mile championship race and there are category prizes with a prize fund of over €1000.
