18th March This year is the third running of this very well regarded Craughwell AC organised 10mile road race. The event has seen a progressive increase in its popularity since its inception in 2010 and the 2012 event is expected to see the race grow even further in stature.
In the ladies category, Pauline Curley of Tullamore Harriers AC, winner in 2010 & 2011 will be looking to make it three in a row. Former Olympian, Pauline, comes to the event in great form having recently won the National Women’s Masters Cross Country championship in Boyle and so is in strong form to break her own course record.
Last year’s winner of the Craughwell 10, Sean Connolly, Tallaght AC, is the current Irish Marathon champion and is looking to qualify for the London Olympics this summer. Sean’s current form is excellent, with a very close second placing in the recent British Universities Cross Country championships.
The extremely positive feedback received after the first two runnings of the event has put it up to the organisers and every effort is being made to maintain the high organisational standard again this year.
Primary sponsorship for the March 18th date is again being very kindly offered by Elverys Sports, with local businesses providing the vital extra support required to run the event.
Opportunities to run a 10 mile road race are very limited on the events calendar and with a fast flat route such as this, the Craughwell event has carved out a niche for itself at the distance.
Adding some spice to the mix, the AAI officially measured route also operates as the Co Galway championship for the 10 mile distance.
So whether you are looking to become race winner, county champion, test the benefit of your hard winter’s efforts ahead of the Connemarathon or improve on your PB, this event is well worth participating in. Finishers t-shirts, medals and refreshments will of course be of the now traditional highest quality.
The organisers are really looking forward to seeing you at the event and promise a day to remember.
