TOP THROWERS HEAD FOR CORK AGAIN
Australia’s Scott Martin, current Commonwealth champion, heads a strong field of international throwers at this year’s Cork City Sports at the Mardyke venue on July 12. Martin opened his European campaign with an impressive victory in Lille last weekend over Poland’s Tomasz Majewski who broke the Cork meeting record when winning the shot in 2006, a record which world champion, Reese Hoffa, obliterated last year with a mighty putt of 21.47m.
Martin will be challenged by leading Americans, Garrett Johnson, Steve Manz, Noah Bryant, Maris Urtans (Latvia), Christopher Gotz (Germany), Rimantas Martisauskas (Lithuania). Irish champion Sean Breathnach from Galway will provide the principal Irish challenge in the shot event.
