Orla & Paul Win Cross-Country Titles Congrats to Loughrea AC for an expert job in hosting the event.
Orla Ni Mhuircheartaigh, GCH, and Paul McNamara, Athenry, were the Senior winners at the Connaught Cross Country Championships held earlier today. The venue was Dartfield Horse Museum Park, Loughrea and the recent persistent rain meant a tough muddy cross-country course and very difficult conditions underfoot for the athletes. Orla led the women’s race from the start and built a convincing lead over the 3 lap race to win from Athenry’s Ann Carter in 2nd and Mayo’s Noreen McManamon in 3rd. The men’s race was a closer affair with Paul McNamara breaking clear from North Sligo’s Patrick Brennan with 2 laps of the 10 lap race to go.
