Prize-money boost for Great Ireland Run

from RTE Sport news The organisers of the Great Ireland Run revealed details of a new €3,500 plus prize fund for the first ten Irish men and women to finish this year’s race at today’s launch in the Phoenix Park. The first Irish finisher (male and female) will receive €500, with €400 for the second home, €300 for third, down to €50 for tenth.

If Irish athletes finish in the top five overall their prize money will be doubled.

A star-studded field of international and national distance runners will compete on the day, including Ireland’s top male and female distance runners, Martin Fagan from Mullingar and Sligo’s Mary Cullen.

They will be joined by Ireland internationals Mark Kenneally, Vinnie Mulvey, Keith Kelly, Mark Hanrahan, Killian Lonergan and Orla O’Mahoney.

Last year’s male and female winners were Kenya’s Abraham Chebii and Doris Changeywo in 28:48 minutes and 32:15 mins.

The Great Ireland Run takes place on Sunday, 5 April in the Phoenix Park and will be broadcast live on RTÉ Two and RTÉ.ie.
