Race results The annual Clifden Lifeboat 10k took place on Sunday in Clifden, Co Galway with entries from all over Ireland, France, Belgium and Canada. The route took the runners up the Sky Road and back to finish outside the Alcock and Brown Hotel, and has been described by Iain Shaw of the Athenry AC as “A hidden gem of a run on the County Galway circuit with probably one of the toughest hills to negotiate on a road race”.

For once the Gods were looking after us, the sun shone and there was a lovely cool breeze, making it lovely running weather. From the start 22 years old Richard Farnan of the Galway City Harriers and winner of the the 2012 race, was leading. He finished first in 36:20 well ahead of local brothers Sean and Seamus Nee who came in 2nd and 3rd in 40:15 and 40:21.The first woman across the line was Lorraine O’Connell in 45:57, followed local woman Olivia Staunton who came in 47:52 and Chamberlayne Champayne coming in 3rd in 52:05.

As usual there was strong competition between the teams, especially between last year’s 2 top teams. In the end, last year’s winners, the Connemara Angels Team of Ballyconneely, made up of brothers Sean and Seamus Nee, Colin Connolly and Alan King won, making it 5 times in a row. Second place went to Lowerys Bar’s Team (Donal O’Brien, Chris Nee and Siobhan Hogan). The first run/walker was Bian Hughes and 1st walker was Richard Needham, both regular participants.

All funds raised from the race go to the Clifden Lifeboat and organisers would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped, participated, sponsored or came out to support the participants, and helped make it a success.
