About Mayo Cancer Support Association Mayo Cancer Support Association was formed in August, 1999. It was formed by a group of volunteers who recognised the need for the service through personal experience and working with persons diagnosed with cancer. Initially the service was run from the Family Centre, Castlebar. Due to the growing demand for these services and with the help and support of the people of Mayo, on the 14th April, 2003, the service moved to its own premises at Rock Rose House at 32 St. Patrick’s Avenue, Castlebar.
Nestled in central Connaught at the junction of the N17 and the N60 national routes, the town of Claremorris is situated midway between Galway and Sligo in the heart of beautiful Mayo. The town derived its name from Maurice de Prendergast, a Norman who came to Ireland in 1169.
Claremorris is a vibrant and thriving town steeped in history and benefits greatly from its agricultural hinterland and very central location in the province of Connaught. Claremorris is an area of rolling drumlins, eskers, woods and impressive lakes. Westwards from Claremorris, looking over a totally unspoilt environment, Croagh Patrick can be seen in the distance.
