Athletes representing the Athletic Association of Ireland embark on a four day trip to Stirling Scotland on this Thursday morning 31st July to compete in the 2008 Celtic Games. Teams from the Province of Ulster, Scotland and Wales along with Ireland compete on Saturday 2nd August covering all disciplines of the track & field programme in the age categories 16 and 18 for boys and girls. 60 athletes representing 49 Athletic Clubs covering 21 counties have been selected on their performances in the recent Woodies DIY Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Antrim and Tullamore, along with 2 members of the World Junior athletics team Steffie Creanor and Tara Jameson.

Competition is based on a points system with Athletics Ireland returning to defend the titles won last year in Belfast – u16 Girls, u18 Girls, Combined Girls and the Overall Title. The Head of Delegation John McGrath is looking forward to the event along with the management team of Aine Pobjoy, Matt Lynch, Nicky Cowman and Kathleen McConnell. The coaching team of Tony Ennis, Jim Ryan, Eamon Flanagan, Cyril Smyth, Ryan Montgomery, Mary Meagher and Emby Walsh will have a very busy days competition. However, the majority are veterans of this competition and will as always offer expert advice and assistance to all of the team.

The Juvenile Committee of the Athletic Association of Ireland congratulate all the athletes selected and wish them every success.
