The race was a great success, with almost 200 runners and 120 walkers participating. We have not come up with a total amount for the money raised yet, but it will be in excess of €5000 euro for Cystic fibrosis Ireland. John Byrne of Mayo AC was first home in 33mins 19 secs, followed closely by Local lad Tommy Carroll 19 seconds behind. They both finished first and second last year, but John took his revenge in finishing first this time around. Third was another local Eoin Rowan followed by Athenry man Brian O’Connor in 34 mins 11 secs.
First Woman home was Ann Murray in 41 mins 34 secs making it a clean sweep for the Mayo AC.
The weather held up very well, and the only hiccup was the boiler running out of water for tea! Everyone seemed to enjoy the day, and most seemed to be keen to come back. Hopefully we will run this event on Easter Monday 2009 with as much interest.
