Day 2 kicked off with a lot of high hopes after a buoyant team returned to the pool.
With a firm challenge to deliver impressive heat swims each of the athletes set about
the task with real purpose and we were not disappointed. The morning was led by
Clodagh Flood in the fastest heat of the 400 for 12 year old girls with an impressive
PB of 4:44.49 to qualify for the final in 10th place.

Our morning was kept busy with Kyle Stolk and David O’Sullivan continuing the effort in the 200BF and both qualifying for finals.

Lydia Kehoe swam the 200BS for 11Yr olds and improved on her entry time
to finish in 11th and 1st reserve for the final, unlucky not to make the cut. In the Boys
14yrs freestyle, Kyle Stolk posted an impressive heat swim to qualify for the finals in
fastest spot. Sarah Kelly and Clodagh Flood swam strong swims to make finals in the
girls 100BF inboth 12Yrs and 13Yrs respectively. Our final heat swims of the morning

Day 2 – Finals

What a great night for the TEAM? We certainly made our presence known this evening
in Pond’s Forge. With 7 finalists tonight and some impressive Heat swims this morning,
we were hopeful that we would see more good results. First up for the finals was
Clodagh Flood (Tallaght, Leinster) in the 12 yrs 400FC final. After a very impressive
heat swim her final result maintained her 10th place finish but shows her what she
needs to do to be as competitive in this longer event. The mood was heightened when
Kyle Stolk (NAC, Leinster) and David O’Sullivan (Galway, Connaught) walked on deck for
the 14 Yrs 200BF final. After a more controlled effort than their respective heats over
the first 100m, both boys finished strongly with O’Sullivan getting the touch over Stolk
to have both boys place 5th and 6th in the overall result and two new PB swims.
Kyle Stolk then took to the block as the fastest qualifier in the 14Yrs 100FC, and didn’t
disappoint his enthusiastic team mates as they cheered him home to a Gold medal
performance in a strong 53.66 time, only .02 ahead of the first British athlete. Our
medals continued with Clodagh Flood taking bronze in the girls 12yrs 100BF in a new
PB of 1:06.42, after a world class showing of her underwater skills with a 14m breakout
and some excellent turns.
Sarah Kelly (Comans, Connaught) then stepped up on the
block to deliver a much improved swim over her heat with a 6th place in 1:06.15.
The final swim for the Team this evening was a great result for Ronan Anderson (Sligo,
Connaught) delivering a huge PB in the 12 Yrs 200IM event. After a well paced effort
he finished in 3rd place to take Bronze in a 2:27.62.
Great Night for these young athletes delivering mature controlled performances at a
high level competition. Well done to all.
