Birr 10K Run
Birr Chamber of Commerce under the presidency of Martin Kearns in conjunction with Fit 2 Run 4 Life Company Limited (a locally based company) have combined resources to host a 10K run in the Georgian town of Birr on Saturday February 26 th. at 11am. The event will be called the Chamber of Commerce ‘Shop local Run’.
The 10K run will provide the ideal motivation to keep up new year resolutions and an opportunity to continue to work on general fitness and well being.Make sure to take out the walking/running shoes and apparel and get active. It is well timed for participants who wish to maintain or improve their fitness levels post christmas.
It is hoped that the run will generate excitement and activity around the sporting town of Birr and will provide an event for all ages and all levels of athletic ability.
It is anticipated that up to 200 people participate.
The run will start at John’s Mall Birr heading out towards the Met station , taking a left out towards Kinnitty. The athletes will continue for a stretch over the Camcor river before taking a right turn at the Red Bridge road. They will continue until they reach a juncture at which point they will take a right which brings them back towards Birr via the Clareen road.
They continue along the road passing Clonoghill cemetry on their left handside before returning into Birr.
The event will finish at the chains on John’s Mall thereby completing the 10K run.
Support for the participants on the day would be very welcome to help create a positive and uplifting atmosphere for all involved.
The race is open to both male and female, walkers, joggers, athletes and elite.
Online registration will be taken on the Precision Timing website, refer to www.precisiontiming.net .
In addition, entries will be accepted on the morning of the race between 9am to 10.30 am. at John’s Mall.
Competitors will be professionally timed using the Precision Timing system.
The first 150 registered participants will receive a Shop local tee shirt .
The entry fee is € 20.00.
Cash prizes will be presented to the first, second and third male and female finishers.
Cash prizes will be presented to the first male and female finisher in both the over 40 and over 50 age category.
In addition a number of excellent prizes generously donated by local businesses will be raffled among all competitors on the day.
The event has an A.A.I.( Athletics Association of Ireland) permit.
Water stations will be situated at 2 mile intervals and water will be available at the finish.
Medical personnel will be in attendance.
Parking and showering Facilities will be available at Birr , Rugby club.
Refreshments will be available for all participants after the event.
Local business people have been very supportive and generous in their sponsorship of this new event.
The local gardai have agreed to help out with activities on the day.
Dooly’s hotel will have the appropriate pre and post meals available on the menu and intend to hold an over 30’s disco on the night.
