from Galway City Harriers Not to be stuck for a race on new year’s day, our own Bernie Kelly made the long haul up the N17 and onto Bundoran in south county Donegal for the local Tír Chonaill Athletic Club’s first-running of their new 8K road-race. She has filed the following short report and some images and a results set are attached here also. Well done Bernie for returning with yet another prize and starting off 2009 on a positive personal and GCH note! This was a well organised run starting near the local GAA pitch in Bundoran where registration took place and where HOT showers were available afterwards – very welcome indeed. The course was nice – not hilly – and took in some nice quiet county lanes before heading out onto the bypass. The run finished at the car-park near the sea in Bundoran town. Goody-bags were on hand for everyone along with a nice t-shirt (pictured). Copious bowls of soup and gallons of tea and coffee were also available in the Allingham Arms hotel afterwards with sandwiches and rolls and very generous prizes in all categories. The local St. Vincent de Paul were the beneficiaries of all money raised. This was the first running of this race and all credit to Tír Chonaill AC for a well run event. It was nice to line up with Maria McCambridge for the first race of the year – things are looking up. I also managed to win the W50 prize so I kept the GCH flag flying into 2009.
