Becker and Roy Star at AAI Games


It was all action at The Irish Life Health AAI Indoor Games on Saturday.

Sophie Becker (St Joseph’s) and Lauren Roy (City of Lisburn) were in fine for both clocked European indoor standards with Becker winning the 400m in 53.66 seconds and Roy the 60m in 7.39.

Cian McPhillips (Longford) was another who impressed with a national youth record in the 1500m finishing fifth in 3:46.42.

Earlier in the day Alex Wright (Leevale) walked to a new national record of 11:06.69 in the 3,000m race walk.

European Clubs Cross Country

Leevale’s Michelle Finn finished 18th at the European Clubs Cross Country Championships to lead the Cork club to a respectable 8th place in the team standings.

Mick Clohisey finished 26th in the men’s race with his club Raheny Shamrock finishing 12th.

Nolan and O’Leary

Domestically, Cheryl Nolan (St Abban’s) and Sean O’Leary (Clonliffe Harriers) won respective Irish Life Health national intermediate cross country titles in Dundalk IT.
