Athletics NI Volunteer Squad- Apply Now for 2010 events!

from Northern Ireland Athletics Athletics Northern Ireland is delighted to announce the launch of the ANI Volunteer Squad.

The squad has been created with help from the Volunteer Development Agency, and is designed to enhance ANI’s resources, assisting event staff and officials with a number of vital roles.

Anyone aged 14 or over can register to be on the volunteer database, and registered members are then invited to apply for exclusive roles at events such as the Antrim International Cross Country, Irish Indoor Athletics Championships at the Odyssey Arena, Titanic Quarter 10k, Summer Track & Field events and much more.

Registration (including a free Access NI check if necessary) is simple and packs can be sent out on request by contacting Jenni Robinson on 028 9060 6960 or emailing [email protected].

Once registered, volunteers get a goody bag and unique volunteer number, entitling them to exclusive deals on the Athletics NI e-shop, tickets, training courses and more. There is of course the additional benefit of experience for your CV, references, personal development or just for fun!

Athletics NI registration will also open up the whole Athletics community to volunteers, as from January 2010 a standard template will be circulated to clubs, allowing them to invite volunteers to ANI-licensed events.

Event organisers will not only have the opportunity to benefit from a pool of keen volunteers, but also have peace of mind knowing that they have cleared all relevant checks. For more information on how to get volunteers for your event, please contact Jenni Robinson on the details above.

The registration process, which should take no longer than 6 weeks for the Access NI check, is designed to ease the transition in to new laws coming in 2010, when all UK organisations (including ANI and clubs) will legally be unable to accept help from unregistered volunteers.

The Access NI check covers addresses in the Republic of Ireland and the rest of the UK, and therefore Athletics NI are glad to welcome volunteers from these areas. Please contact Jenni on the details above for more information on the new laws.

UKA-licensed officials and coaches do not need to register as an Access NI check is already part of UKA licensing requirements.

Registration packs and posters for clubs and schools will be available at the NI & Ulster Age Group Championships on Saturday 24th October – come along to get your pack or find out more!
