
Military Style Obstacle Course Facilitates Fundraising ADARE TO SURVIVE, West Limerick’s latest addition to its already impressive calendar of events, has announced that Cliona’s Foundation with be its charity partner for the inaugural event taking place this September.
ADARE TO SURVIVE, West Limerick’s latest addition to its already impressive calendar of events, has announced that Cliona’s Foundation with be its charity partner for the inaugural event taking place this September.
Event Directors, Ray Nash and Mark Tuohy, announced the partnership at the launch in the Fitzgerald’s Woodlands Hotel in Adare earlier this week. The Co Limerick men said they were “humbled” to be associated with such a worthwhile cause.
Terry Ring of Cliona’s Foundation said, “We are absolutely delighted to be involved in such an event. The Adare to Survive Organisers are undertaking a huge adventure and we are thrilled to be the nominated charity to benefit from, what will no doubt be, a tremendous success”.
Adare to Survive is a 7.5K military style obstacle course that will take place in Adare’s Clonshire Equestrian Centre on Sunday 29 September and competitors are invited to “Endeavour, Endure and Enjoy” a unique mental and physical challenge.
The audience at the launch, which included political representatives, members of the Irish Football Amputee Association, UK Biggest Loser contestant Gerard Burke and Co Limerick businesses were told that the course would consist of approximately 35 obstacles, including 8 foot walls, ponds, trenches and beams. They were warned that mud, barbed wire and electric shocks would feature on September 29th.
Having been given a preview of what to expect in September when 4 actual obstacles were unveiled, the audience was offered an opportunity to try them out. Adare woman Lizzie Buggy, former professional rugby player Brian Tuohy and Diarmuid Devanney of the Irish Amputee Football Association delighted the audience by scaling the 8 foot 3 “Berlin Wall”. Simon Baker, who holds a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the Fastest Marathon on Crutches on One Leg made it look very easy whilst TDs, Patrick O Donovan and Niall Collins, demonstrated their competitive natures by seeing who could get to the top first.
