Marathon running takes to the stage Bandit is a play by actor and runner Brian O’Riordan. It tells the story of a man who has returned home to Dublin after 6 years of being declared missing to run the marathon without a number, as a bandit runner, and win.
Brian O’Riordan is devising Bandit, which tells the story of one man’s struggle with solitude, guilt and acceptance, alongside his intensive training for his own first marathon (Dublin City Marathon) which he is aiming to run in under 3 hours all in aid of Pieta House: The Centre for Prevention of Self Harm and Suicide. He has done extensive research into the kinds of extreme training and conditioning marathon runners can go through (including Cryo-therapy and Chi Running) and he has also talked to many runners about their thoughts, struggles and triumphs in an attempt to write an accurate and honest piece of theatre.
Brian is a graduate of Bull Alley Theatre School and works as an actor in theatre, film and tv. Bandit is his first attempt at writing and devising a one man play and he was lucky enough to be one of 5 successful applicants to the Show in a Bag initiative. Through Show in a Bag he has gotten the opportunity to work with talented theatre makers such as Gavin Kostick and Bryan Burroughs.
