Dave Sunderland, one of the leading UK endurance coaches is delivering a number of workshops on our current level 3 course this coming Sunday

Any existing level 3 coach who is interested in attending the course in the AAI offices in Santry on Sunday the 21st of October should contact Gary Ryan on 0879830570 or [email protected] before Wednesday the 17th. Places are limited. Dave will cover such topics as training for the 3k to 10k, training at altitude and adjustments for climate and other environmental factors. The fee for the day is €10

World leading Middle Distance coach for Dublin seminar
Scott Raczo, coach to this years World No. 1 over 1500m Alan Webb will present a seminar in Dublin on the 3rd of November.

Scott coached Alan Webb to break the legendary Jim Ryun’s High School mile record in the US and this year returned as coach to Alan who became the No. 1 on this years world rankings for 1500.

Scott will present 2 seminars on the 3rd of November in the ALSAA complex in Dublin Airport. The Timetable for the day will be
11-12.30 Coaching the Junior Middle distance athlete
12.30-1.30 Lunch
1.30-3pm Bringing an athlete to world class and the improvement in US middle distance.

Athletics Ireland Fit4Life Training Day a Huge Success
Groups from all over Ireland –from Innishowen in the far North West, to Tralee in the equally distanced South West and all points in between, gathered in DCU for an Athletics Ireland ‘Fit4life Leader’ training day on Saturday, October 13th.

The Fit4Life Meet n Train programme, supported by Athletics Ireland and the Irish Sports Council’s Women in Sport initiative, will be led by trained club leaders and aims at getting thousands physically active, across the country, during the coming months.

Athletics Ireland C.E.O. Mr. Brendan Hackett, indicated that
‘following on from the success of last years programme of ‘Fit4Life Leagues’ (many of which are still in operation), we hope to further build on the recreational section of athletics clubs by encouraging recreational runners/walkers to join clubs and enjoy appropriate and sociable training sessions’

The content of the day included inter-active sessions on Health and Fitness, Designing and Planning Appropriate Training Programmes, Promoting Fit4Life,Warming up/Cooling down; Stretching; and Developing Core Strength and Stability. Valuable inputs also came from successful Fit4Life League leaders and from Lindie Naughton, Coach, Journalist and well known in Dublin Meet n Train groups. All participating Leaders were given a copy of Lindie’s new book ‘Lets Run’ A handbook for Irish Runners; which includes lots of practical advice on how to introduce and develop friendly walking and running programmes to recreational runners.

The Fit4Life Meet n Train groups will now begin to offer opportunities to recreational runners to join their clubs and upon registration with Athletics Ireland, the participants will receive branded goods and training diary as well as benefiting form being part of a regular training group. Each group will have fliers to distribute in their local area in the coming weeks.

World Hammer finalist Eileen O’Keeffe today helped launch a new children’s charity called ‘United for Children’’. Four passionate and dedicated children’s charities are coming together under one umbrella with the common goal of making a crucial difference in the lives of children and their families. The four charities are Angels Quest, To Russia with Love, Baby Max Wings of Love Fund and Jack & Jill Foundation and was launched today at the Four Season’s Hotel in Dublin.
