5Km Run
You must wear your number front and back – not to do so could mean disqualification.

The running route is changing slightly this year, but starting again at the pier. stewarding will be in place at all key points.

Leave the pier – turn left for the village center Into the village, across the roundabout – run up the road behind Cronins. Turn left at small junction and you will be directed onto the lower point road back along seafront past Centra. Through the village, when you approach the pier area again, use the higher road and run out along the road towards Carrigaline, past the Royal Cork yacht club. Approx 800m further along the road you will meet stewards with a large “Runners turn here” sign – turn and run straight back to Centra to finish. Use the higher road at the pier again.

Again this years triathlon will be both a competitive event and a fun day out and will cater for individuals as well as teams following the success of last year and in line with the current recession enterance fees are greatly reduced.

33 teams competed in the triathlon in 2008. Each team consisting of three members – one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner. Individual Entry is available this year. Individuals will compete in all three events.

Entry fee per team of three is €300. For Individual Entry the fee is €100. Entries this year are on a first come first served basis but five team places will be reserved specifically for Crosshaven and local area community groups. Sponsorship packs area already available so if you want to be a headstart contact Suzie Lee on 087/748.52.61 and she’ll get a pack out to you.

The challenge is a fundraising event and the aim is to raise €15,000 for local projects within the Crosshaven area. Last year we exceeded our target of €12,000 and raised money for the Crosshaven Development Fund, Colaiste Muire Sailing Club, Realt Na Mara Guides, Scoil Bride Playground Fund, Crosshaven Active Retired as well as providing money towards a bus shelter in Fountainstown.

Garda Cósta na hÉireann – the Irish Coastguard will monitor the swim, they will be assisted by the RNLI. The Gardaí, Civil Defence and local stewards will monitor the 10Km cycle and 5Km run. St Johns Ambulance will also be in attendance. A big thanks to all these voluntary organisations who help make this event run so smoothly.
