Irelands Spectacular Adventure Marathon The 3rd Clare Burren Marathon Challenge
Irelands Spectacular Adventure Marathon … taking place on May 22nd in Ballyvaughan.
This Spectacular marathon, now an International event, offers a choice of three challenges, a Full 26.2 mile marathon, a Half 13.1 mile marathon and a Mini 6-mile marathon all starting together at 9am in Ballyvaughan on May 22nd. The routes will take participants across one of Europe’s most unique landscapes, while enjoying the Riches, Flora and Fauna of the Burren Region. All levels of ability are catered for and participants are welcome to walk, jog or run the challenge of their choice.
Gerry Reidy, Marathon Manager, believes this presents the ideal opportunity to promote the Burren region and for participants to challenge themselves to take part in a marathon that has focus on participation and personal achievement. He said “this year we are competing with a lot more emerging events throughout the country. Last year the marathon attracted over 2500 people to the North Clare area, and it is hoped that this year’s event will bring €500,000 to the local economy over the weekend as the Ballyvaughan / Fanore Walking Club hosts one of the biggest events in the Clare sporting calendar”.
The committee continue to enhance the event with a number of added features. The events in 2008 & 2009 showed a significant number of participants taking part for their chosen charity and for this reason charity packages are available this year for charity groups and organisations. The number of runners taking part has also grown and from their feedback on previous events, this year the organisers have arranged that all participants over 16yrs will be chip timed.
Building on the success of last year’s event, the organisers are delighted that once again they have the goodwill and support of the local landowners, a strong team of stewards, walking club members, the Gardai, Health & Safety organisations, and Clare Sports Partnership.
The Club have again partnered with Logue’s Lodge, Ballyvaughan as the main sponsor for the 2010 event, Alan Logue proprietor, has a number of successful businesses in the North Clare area, and is an experienced marathon runner. They are also thankful to Clare Spring Water who have come on board and will be sponsoring the water on the day.
