Zambia 30km Challenge is a charity hike that will take place on Saturday 16th of August at 9:00am and will begin and end at Marley Park, Rathfarnam, following the Wicklow Way. This challenge invites teams of 4 (which you can name as creatively as you wish!) as well as individuals to take part in this exciting event to help raise much needed funds to help some of the poorest people living in the African country of Zambia. Participants will enjoy a 30km hike through the beautiful Dublin and Wicklow mountains and a unique medal will be presented to all finishers!
Individuals are asked to raise a minimum of €50 sponsorship and teams are urged to raise a minimum of €250 sponsorship between 4 to take part in the hike.

Ashbourne resident, Sandra Palles, will embark on the trip of a lifetime to Zambia next summer as part of the O’Connell Secondary School Zambia Immersion Project. Along with three other staff members and eight students, Sandra will travel here to work in some of the poorest parts of the country including:
– The Cheshire Home for Disabled Children run by the presentation sisters, where previous project volunteers have had the privilege of working with the children doing muscle building exercises in the playground and pool
– In Limulinga pre-school and building project, volunteers have undertaken construction of blocks for new buildings, made cement, put down floors and inserted mosquito nets into window frames
– Vounteers have also worked in the Namushakende pre-school and Mother and Babies Clinic. This facility, run by the Sisters, ensures that mothers receive essential HIV drugs to combat the spread of the virus to the unborn children.
All money raised will help send staff and students of OCS to Zambia on the 6th project to date and will ultimately benefit so many people in the country.
