Yukon Arctic 300 mile Ultra success for Galway’s Gavan Hennigan

Gavan Hennigan (34) finished in 2nd position in what is described as the World’s coldest and toughest Ultra event. The Yukon Arctic Ultra follows the Yukon River, participants traverse 300 miles on foot dragging a 25kg sled. The Galway native completed the event in 5 Days, 3 hours and 7 minutes.

 American Jan Kriska (48) who won the event also broke the course record finishing in 4 days , 21 hours and 5 minutes. Gavan finished in 2nd position overall recording the 3rd fastest time on record on the course.

He would have also podiumed in the 100 mile footracehad he been entered in it, himself and Jan beating the competitors on the 100 mile course to the finish line.

As Gavan recovers from his epic arctic adventure he already has his sights on his next race; a 630 mile Ultra across Lake Baikal Siberia in 2 weeks time. You can follow his progress on twitter on @soulogav
