Connemara Rough Diamond On June 4th 2011 the first All Ireland Adventure Race will take place in North West Connemara. Registrations are now open for teams of four to compete in a Sport and Expert category to be crowned the first All Ireland Adventure Race Champions. This exciting competition will form part of the Connemara Rough Diamond 2011 which includes the already famous “John Wayne” human steeplechase on beautiful Lettergesh Beach as well as the “Fear Gorta” assault course in Kylemore woods.

In the expert category (56km) a mountain run will test you both physically and mentally as well as a summit of the Diamond Mountain in the Connemara National Park followed by a cycle to finish the race in Clifden via the majestic Sky Road. The course has been designed by Padraig Marrey who was the top adventure racer in Ireland in 2010 and he has a strong expert team entered from Mayo. No doubt the gauntlet has been thrown down to all challengers to see if you come and can beat them!

The sport category (39km) is really for anyone with reasonable fitness looking for a fun day out while making your way through the course at your own pace, in some of the most beautiful unspoilt landscape Ireland has to offer. Free camping for one night at Connemara Caravan park, a hot meal after the race as well as race refreshments are included in a great value €45 per person for teams. Also if you hurry there is a limited number of free hydration packs worth circa €40 each for the first 20 team captains who enter.

With it being the June Bank holiday why not make a weekend of it. There are lots of other things to do in Clifden www.clifden.ie as well as in the wider Renvyle to Roundstone locality including Bog Week in Letterfrack which is a Ten-day multi-layered authentic festival – a celebration of landscape. Traditional Music and Sean Nós dance workshops, art exhibition in Connemara National Park. Vibrant schools programmes are also part of the week.

Our charity partners are Croi and all entrants will be posted a sponsorship card directly from them so if you want to raise some money for a worthy cause check out www.croi.ie If indeed you want to raise some money for some other charity near and dear to you that’d be great as well. Connemara Rough Diamond will also be donating a percentage of the entry fee to Croi.
