From Eoin Ryan Wexford Half Marathon are delighted to announce the inclusion of a New 10km to compliment the Half Marathon on April 22nd. The new half marathon course in 2011 was widely accepted as a fast, flat and scenic course with 58% achieving a PB (despite the high winds).
The expectation is that the 10km will also be serious PB potential. The 10km will follow the same route as the Half Marathon; starting flat, following the gradual incline then taking a left and shooting down Sinnott’s Town lane (at km5.3) and then its flat all the way to the finish! The start area will remain the same for the Half Marathon and 10km but both races will finish in the new location in the Faythe in Wexford Town. This provides a natural, tree lined and straight gallop to the finish which is ideal for spectators and participants who hold onto a sprint finish in the legs.
As a result of the change in the finish area there will now be more running through the award winning grounds of Johnstown Castle. The castle is a big feature in the new route as you run through exotic gardens and then around the lake with under the shadow of the Castle. Some people forgot they were in a race and were blow away by the Castle grounds!
The motto of the race is ‘Helping you to achieve your Goals’. The fast, flat, sheltered and scenic course will help you to do this along with water bottles at aid stations and Pacers. The race is run in association with DMP athletic club and the excitement is brewing already amongst past participants and new participants.
