Sunday, 24th August 2008 • From the beachfront at Strandhill, start up along the shore road to St Patrick RC Church and take the road on the left that runs up The Burma Road towards Sligo. At the top of this road continue on the main Sligo road past the Texaco petrol station and take the first right towards St Annes COI Church. Turn right again at the first water station and start the climb up the High Brae. • Continue along this road past Rathcarrick forestry, the second water station and to the crossroads at Grange East. Turn right up hill towards Primrose Grange guest house. Once past here take the right lane into the Car Park at the base of the mountain where a double water station is located and the tourist trail up to the top of Knocknarea begins.
• From the Car Park you now go off road and start up the mountain along the initially rocky tourist path to the gate where the mountain climb up the heather paths begins. Keep going straight up !
• At the top of the mountain, Queen Maeve Grave is facing you. Run to its base and turn left to circle the cairn ANTI-clockwise ?. Run around the base of the cairn until you reach the same path that you have just come up. Your half way there and now ready to head back down the mountain to the Car Park.
• Back onto the Glen Road turn right out of the Car Park junction. Continue along the flat straight road where it will take you downhill past the glen and then eventually back onto the main Strandhill Road.
• Turn right towards Strandhill via Culleenamore and the Sandy Field corner where the last water station is located. One last uphill climb brings you back into Strandhill Village. Continue along the top road towards Kellys Pub where you take a left down Buenos Aires Drive to St Patrick RC Church and the Shore Road
• Your on the home straight now as you head back down along the Shore Road to the finish line at the beachfront again
