Valentia Island Half Marathon

0

This event features breathtaking views of Valentia Island and the surrounding seas, mountains and wildlife… competitors assemble in Knightstown to register between 9am-11:30am on Saturday morning 15th September (all competitors receive a tee shirt and TIMING CHIP). The route is a perfect 21.1km anticlockwise setting off from the clocktower up Main Street and on to the first relay changeover point at the famous SLATE QUARRY (4.5km). This is the shortest but most demanding stage of the run as it involves a continuous gentle climb – rewarded with spectacular views of Dingle Bay and refreshments. Competitors then decend for approx 1km before turning right and continuing along the dramatic High Road along the top of the island to the road junction at BRAY HEAD (11.4). This marks the second relay changeover point for four person relay teams and the first/only changover point for two person relay teams. This stage of the run will be rewarded by spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, Skellig Rocks and Portmagee village. Elasped distance between the Slate Quarry and Bray Head is 6.9km (the longest stage for four person relay teams). Refreshments including energy drinks will be available. Competitors then continue along the Middle Road to CHAPELTOWN (16.1km). This is the third and final relay changeover point for four person relay teams and final ‘official’ water/refreshment station. Competitors then take a right turn along the Coast Road to complete the scenic final 5km section of the run, finishing in Knightstown village. This event is a TIMING CHIP event. Prize giving will take place outside or inside (weather depending!) the Royal Hotel at approximately 5pm. A party will follow – details to be announced nearer the time! THIS EVENT IS DISTANCE CERTIFIED HALF MARATHON AND SANCTIONED BY KERRY ATHLETICS
