Successful crossover from swimming to triathlon. Aichlinn O’Reilly produced a fabulous performance to win 25.5 Portumna Triathon on Sunday Aichlinn was a volunteer marshall at the 25.5 Westport Triathlon last month and was so impressed by what he saw that he decided he would give it a go, so he asked his swim coach for a triathlon training plan. I gave him a plan and a few tips and thought not much more about it.
I was delighted when I heard he wanted to take part in the Portumna triathlon and absolutely thrilled when he flew past the finish line 1st in a time of 1:03:06 past many experienced triathletes.
Aileen O’Reilly produced a great produced a great performance to be 1st lady home in a time of 1:09:41 and Norma Harnedy 1:13:41 wasn’t too far behind her. Third lady home was Noreen O’Toole in 1:18:59.
In the Mini Tryathlon Clodagh O’Hanlon and Andrew Kelly showed great potential as the up and coming generation of sports stars as they battled to a tight finish. Clodagh was first home marginally after a very strong run. Well done Clodagh and Andrew and we look forward to seeing them at many more events in the future.
A great day was had by all and we extend our thanks to all who took part, all who came to support, and of course the marshalls and safety crew without whom the event could not have happened.
