Sports Specific First Aid Course
THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL HOWEVER A RESERVE LIST WILL BE TAKEN FOR A POTENTIAL SECOND COURSE.
Sports Specific First Aid Course will be delivered by Northern Ireland First Aid Services on 7th Oct Mary Peters Track, Belfast 10.00am – 4.00pm. The course will cost £65 to attend. Limited places available.
The following is the course content;
• Introduction to first aid and safety in the sports field
• Assessment of the incident and injured person
• Resuscitation on an Adult, Child and Infant (Includes a demonstration of a Defibrillator)
• Causes of unconsciousness, Head Injuries, Concussion, Direct Impact
• Choking – Tongue Vacuum, Gum and gum shields
• Control of bleeding to the Lips, Nose, Mouth, Legs and arms.
• Shock – Recognition and treatment
• Burns, scalds and poisons
• Fractures – Lower limb, Arms, Jaw, Collar Bone, Shoulder, Ribs – Immobilisation etc…
• Minor Illness – Such as Asthma, Diabetes and Epilepsy.
• Record keeping and what to have and use safely in a first aid kit.
On successful completion of the course and continual assessment, the delegate will receive a nationally recognised Sports Specific First Aid Certificate.

Disability Inclusion Training (DIT) Workshop
Disability Sport NI will be hosting a Disability Inclusion Training (DIT) Workshop on Wednesday 10th October at the Mary Peters Track, Belfast from 6.30pm – 9.30pm.
This workshop will be free to club coaches, however priority will be given to clubs who are registered for the ANI Clubmark scheme as this course is a requirement for all clubs to achieve their accreditation.
The course will also have a ‘sport specific’ focus and through a range of interactive exercises sports club administrators, coaches and volunteers are made aware of the main barriers to participation, and are provided with practical advice and guidance.
The course will include;
Session 1 – Theory
• Perceptions & Experiences
• Language & Etiquette
• Barriers & Solutions
• Disability Discrimination Act: Leisure based case studies
• Including People with Disabilities – Practical steps
• Local Contacts
NB: The ‘sport specific’ DIT course includes sport specific case studies, sport specific information on classification and sport specific information on pathways. Javelin Workshop
A Javelin workshop will be delivered on Friday 19th October by Northern Ireland Record Holder Laura Kerr to qualified coaches. This will be delivered at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.
This workshop will include;
• Teaching progressions for beginning javelin throwers
• Common technical errors and corrections
• Conditioning drills for javelin throwers (including plyometrics and medicine ball)
• Review of information from the European Javelin Conference (Finland 2012) on athlete development and preventing injuries

Jumps Workshop
A Jumps Workshop will be delivered on Saturday 13th October at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown by UKA event Coach Alan Richardson. An introduction to Polevault will be held for coaches interested in delivering this event from 9am – 11am.
Another workshop will be held from 11.30am – 1.00pm for Generic Jumps. This will include Jumping drills and plyometric exercises.

NEW Wheel Chair Racing Module
UKA have recently launched the new Athletics Coach Modules that are aimed at complementing the 7 core events that are covered on the Athletics Coach course.
These new Modules are offered as an online learning resource so that eligible coaches can now further progress their own development opportunities within the Athletics Coach role. The Modules that will be available over the coming months include Pole Vault, Triple Jump, Hammer, Discus and Wheelchair Racing and are being developed utilising the collective knowledge of event specialists from around the World.
