Co. Kilkenny 17/11/2013 The Stook 10 mile road race is hosted by Gowran AC and aims to build on its impressive 2012 debut where it was acclaimed for course, organisation and terrific post-race spread – not to mention cool finisher cowbells. New for 2013 are two features that promise to add to the Stook Race experience. The first is a dedicated “cheering zone” to motivate and encourage with music, cowbells and noisy support (think tour de france) Runners can then let loose on the Stook Flying Mile – Ireland’s fastest timed downhill mile, with timing chips providing official flying mile splits as part of the online results.
The route itself is scenic and enjoyable, designed as an end of year blow out for those who want a mid-winter target race or to capitalise on their autumn marathon training. 2012 saw over 500 participants take part in the 10-mile and Stook Beag 5k dash.
Stook offers a good value, friendly and enjoyable experience to runners of all abilities. In addition to the unique finisher cowbell, accurate course, chip timing, online results and water stations you’d expect from a club organised race – there will be individual, category and team prizes on offer.
Entry fee is only €20.00 online / €25 on the day. The dash is €10 for adults and €5 for kids. The race starts from Dungarvan Church, 3 miles south of Gowran village, which is 15 minutes drive from J7 on the M9 motorway. All proceeds from the race go to the juvenile members of Gowran AC and Young Ireland’s GAA Club. More info www.stook10.ie
