This years Slane Castle 5km will now be chip timed with 10mile run. This year Slane Castle will host 10mile and 5km run in grounds of Slane Castle and village. It was initially decided to have 10mile chip timed only and 5km clock timed.
It has now been decided to have both 10mile and 5km chip timed. This means people don’t have to worry about checking their time at finish line, as it will be stored and kept via chip. You can get on with your running and get over the line without worrying. The day will only be starting when your run is finished, as Slane Castle will be holding it’s annual Lady Well fete (www.ladwellfete.com).
The 10mile and 5km run is open to all types of runners, joggers and walkers. The Castle and surrounding country side provides participants with historic and picturesque views along the route. The 10 mile event is catered for those who maybe taking part in any of this years Autumn Marathons and could provide excellent workout towards training. We decided to have a 5km run for those who may only be starting out their running
career and just not ready for long 10 mile run. It will also benefit those who wish to have a quick sprint around the village. As mentioned the 10 mile and 5km events will be chip timed, and finishing time text to each participant. Also each participant will receive a goodie bag containing finishers medal and T- shirt and some treats to re energise the body.
All participant’s can be assured a great day out. We urge all family members to come along as there will be something for everyone.
As this is a family day out its only fitting that proceeds will go to Crumlin Children’s hospital, where much needed funds are required for their cancer ward.
So get ready for the first of many Slane Castle Runs. Who knows it may become just as famous for its annual running events as it Rock concert events.
